Children 3-17 Who Did Not Receive Needed Mental Health Treatment

Measurement Period: 2021-2022
This indicator shows the percent of children ages 3-17 years with emotional, developmental, or behavioral problems for which treatment or counseling was needed who did not receive treatment or counseling from a mental health professional during the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

Mental health disorders are the leading cause of disability in the United States. They can impair a person's ability to function, have healthy relationships, and enjoy a good quality of life. Many mental health problems begin early in life. The best way to help children to have successful outcomes and prevent problems in adulthood is to provide consistent and effective treatment and supports for both children and their families as soon as problems start.
