This indicator shows the percent of children aged 0-17 years who have at least one person they consider to be their personal doctor or nurse.
Why is this important?
Having a source of ongoing health care for children is particularly important. To stay healthy, young people require regular checkups, dental and vision care, and medical attention for illness and injury. Youth with an ongoing source of health care are more likely to have better health throughout their childhood and adolescence. They are more likely to receive required immunizations, fall ill less frequently, obtain necessary treatment when they do get sick, and perform better at school.
