Doctor Advised About Weight Among Obese/Overweight

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2018
This indicator shows the percentage of overweight or obese adults who were advised about their weight by a healthcare provider in the past 12 months.  Overweight or obese is defined as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or greater.

Why is this important?

Healthcare providers play an important role both in health status and in prevention for their patients.  Individuals who are overweight or obese are at an increased risk for a number of negative health outcomes.  Intervention to encourage lifestyle changes that result in weight loss can help reduce this risk.  Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers who talk with their at-risk patients about their weight give them the opportunity to learn and make changes to improve their health.
