Teens Who Walk, Wheelchair, or Bike to School

County: Maui
This indicator shows the percent of public school students in grades 9-12 who usually got to school in an average week by walking/wheelchair or bicycling.

Why is this important?

Being physically active helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints. It helps control and maintain weight, build lean muscle, and reduce fat. Regular physical activity can also improve focus and cognitive performance and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Incorporating physical activity into a daily routine during adolescence increases the chances of becoming a physically active adult. Inactivity during childhood and adolescence increases the likelihood of being inactive as an adult.
