Teens Who Drink Sweetened Juice Drinks at Least Once Per Day

This indicator shows the percent of public school students in grades 9-12 who drank a glass, can, or bottle of sweetened fruit drinks, sports drinks, or energy drinks (not including 100% juice) at least once per day

Why is this important?

Sweetened drinks can seem healthy but the often have a large amounts of sugars and very few nutrients. They contribute many calories to the diet but do not satiate the appetite like food. Consumption of sweetened beverages is associated with increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and tooth decay. Reducing sweetened drink consumption can result in decrease in weight and is an important measure for obesity prevention and overall health.
