Workers Commuting by Bicycling

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2016-2020
This indicator shows the percent of total trips to work made by bicycling.

Why is this important?

The use of alternative forms of transportation, such as bicycling, has benefits for the environment, the individual, and the population. Motor vehicle emissions contribute to the degradation of our environment and to adverse respiratory and cardiovascular health effects. The physical activity involved in bicycling decreases an individual's risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. The use of alternative modes of transportation also helps relieve traffic congestion and decreases the risk of injury or death due to motor vehicle crashes.
