Children with Poor or Fair Teeth

Measurement Period: 2021-2022
This indicator shows the percent of children aged 1-17 years whose parents report their teeth are in fair or poor condition.

Why is this important?

Oral health has been shown to impact overall health and well-being. In children, poor oral health can have serious consequences on development and ability to learn. Tooth decay is the most common chronic, infectious disease in American children. Untreated cavities can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. Early childhood dental visits and ongoing preventive dental visits improve oral health and reduce later costs.
