This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate due to all forms of cancer (ICD-10 codes C00-C97).
Why is this important?
Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Most cancers are named for the organ or type of cell in which they start. The prognosis depends on the cancer type, stage at detection, and treatment options. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Hawaiʻi, claiming over 2,400 lives each year.
