This indicator shows the percent of adults who received an influenza vaccination in the past year.
Why is this important?
Influenza is a contagious disease caused by the influenza virus. It can lead to pneumonia and can be dangerous for people with heart or breathing conditions. It is estimated that 400,000 people are hospitalized each year due to influenza and 22,000 die - mostly the elderly. The seasonal influenza vaccine can prevent serious illness and death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends annual vaccinations to prevent the spread of influenza. This is a Healthy People 2030 Leading Health Indicator.
