Adults Who Grew Up with Drug Use in Household

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2020
This indicator shows the percent of adults who, before they were 18 years old, lived with someone who used illegal street drugs or who abused prescription medications.

Why is this important?

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood (0-17 years) and include factors that can undermine a child's sense of safety, stability and bonding. ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance use problems in adolescence and adulthood. ACEs can also negatively impact education, job opportunities, and earning potential. Creating and sustaining stable, nurturing relationships and environments for all children and families can prevent ACEs and help all people reach their full potential.
