This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate due to unintentional injuries (ICD-10 codes V01-X59, Y85-Y86).

Why is this important?

Unintentional injuries are a leading cause of death for Americans of all ages, regardless of gender, race, or economic status. From 2020-2022 unintentional injuries were the fourth leading cause of death overall and in the Hawaiʻi accounting for over 1,900 deaths in a 3 year period. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in young people ages 1-44 years. Major categories of unintentional injuries include motor-vehicle collisions, poisonings, and falls.
