This indicator shows all household spending on transportation as a percentage of all annual household spending in the selected location. This includes spending on out-of-town transportation, local transportation, and vehicle expenses.
Why is this important?
Neighborhood and community characteristics, including relative housing and transportation costs, contribute to health disparities by racial/ethnic group, income level, and education level (U.S. Department of Transportation). A community's spending on transportation in relation to total spending offers insight into overall household allocation of financial resources.
