Adults Transported by Medicaid for Dental Services

State: Hawaii
Measurement Period: 2021
This indicator shows the number of adults transported off their resident island by air for dental treatment each year.

Why is this important?

Medicaid is a state-administrated health insurance program funded at the federal and state levels for low-income populations. Each state program determines its covered services, provider reimbursement, and administrative operation processes. Dentist participation in state Medicaid programs is an important aspect of the dental care safety net meant to serve nearly 75 million covered adults and children in the United States. Air transport is used in situations where there is no local Medicaid enrolled dentist.
