Children 6-11 with More Than 1 Hour of TV/Screen Time

Measurement Period: 2020-2021
This indicator shows the percent of children aged 6-11 years who spend more than one hour in front of a TV, computer, cellphone or other electronic device watching programs, playing games, accessing the internet or using social media (not for school work) on most weekdays.

Why is this important?

The combined sedentary time through venues including televisions shows, video games, videos, Internet web sites, texting, social media and other digital activities is referred to collectively as screen time. Studies show a correlation between increased screen time and increasing risk of becoming overweight or obese. Besides increasing the risk for chronic health conditions, studies show that increased screen time among adolescents is associated with low attachment to parents and peers.
