LGB Teens with Suicidal Thoughts

County: Honolulu
Measurement Period: 2021
This indicator shows the percent of lesbian, gay, or bisexual public school students in grades 9-12 who seriously considered attempting suicide in the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

Lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) teens are at a greater risk for suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts. According to the CDC, LGB youth are 3 times as likely to consider suicide and 5 times as likely to attempt suicide as compared to their heterosexual counterparts. Suicide is a major preventable public health issue and a leading cause of death among young people.
