This indicator shows the percentage of households receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), cash public assistance, or Food stamps/SNAP with children under 18 years old.
Why is this important?
Households receiving assistance generally have difficulty providing adequate care for all members of the household. Individuals in these households may not be able to afford the resources necessary to succeed in school and at work, and in some cases, may defer or decline treatment for health conditions.
