Teens Who Tried to Quit Smoking

Measurement Period: 2017
This indicator shows the percentage of public school students in grades 9-12 who smoked cigarettes in past 30 days and tried to quit smoking in the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

Tobacco use can lead to tobacco/nicotine dependence and serious health problems. Quitting smoking greatly reduces the risk of developing smoking-related diseases. Tobacco/nicotine dependence is a condition that often requires repeated treatments, but effective treatments and helpful resources exist. Smokers can and do quit smoking. In fact, today there are more former smokers than current smokers.
