Received Treatment for Illicit Drug or Alcohol Use

Measurement Period: 2018-2019
This indicator shows the percentage of persons aged 12 years and older who needed illicit drug and/or alcohol treatment and received it in the past 12 months.

Why is this important?

Addiction is a complex illness that can be extremely difficult to cure. Since the mid-1970s, research has shown that treatment can help addicted patients to stop using, avoid relapse, and recover their lives. Medication and behavioral therapy, often combined, are critical elements of treatment. A continuum of care that addresses all aspects of the patient's life is ideal. If an individual feels he/she has a problem with drugs and/or alcohol, seeking treatment is an important step in recovery.
