Employment Among Persons with Disabilities

Measurement Period: 2012
This indicator shows the percentage of persons aged 16-64 years with disabilities who are currently employed.

Why is this important?

People with disabilities have a higher unemployment rate than people without disabilities.  Not only does this affect their financial status, it also decreases their opportunity to participate in important daily activities that add to a person’s growth, development, and fulfillment.  Helping people with disabilities acquire jobs allows them to be more involved in the community, while simultaneously increasing their sense of independence.  Additionally, employed individuals with disabilities may have improved access to necessary health care through insurance and an increased income.
