Adults with Hypertension with Controlled Blood Pressure

Measurement Period: 2021
This indicator shows the percent of adults with hypertension whose mean systolic blood pressure is less than 140 mm Hg and mean diastolic blood pressure is less than 90 mm Hg.  The indicator excludes pregnant women.

Why is this important?

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a significant increase in the blood pressure in the arteries. Many people with hypertension may not experience symptoms, even if their blood pressure is dangerously high. Hypertension is the leading cause of stroke and a major cause of heart attacks. Individuals who have been diagnosed with hypertension must begin treatment or engage in a healthier alternative to control and reduce incidence of first and recurrent heart attacks and strokes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. This is a Healthy People 2030 Leading Health Indicator.
