Violent Crime Perpetrated by Adolescents and Young Adults

County: Maui
Measurement Period: 2015
This indicator shows the number of arrests among persons aged 10-24 years for violent crime (murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) per 100,000 persons of the same age.

Why is this important?

In 2011, over 30% of arrests for violent crime were among adolescents and young adults aged 10 to 24 years.  This is a critical time period in an individual's life, as many behavioral patterns are established during this developmental phase.  Perpetration of violent crime at this age may begin a life-long cycle of involvement in the criminal justice system.  Additionally, individuals who perpetrate crime often become victims themselves.
