Cervical Cancer Incidence Rate

County: Kauai
Measurement Period: 2015-2019
This indicator shows the age-adjusted incidence rate for cervical cancer in cases per 100,000 females.

Why is this important?

Cervical cancer forms in the tissues of the cervix. When detected early, cervical cancer is one of the most successfully treatable cancers. Cervical cancer is detected by Pap test screenings and is most often caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a type of sexually transmitted infection. The CDC recommends that all women ages 21-29 have a Pap test every 3 years, while women ages 30-65 should have a Pap test and an HPV test every 5 years or a Pap test alone every 3 years; and that teens and young adults through age 26 be vaccinated for HPV.
