Adults with One or More Tooth Extractions

County: Hawaii
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percent of adults who have had at least one permanent tooth extracted due to tooth caries or periodontal disease.

Why is this important?

Oral health has been shown to impact overall health and well-being. Nearly one-third of all adults in the United States have untreated tooth decay, or tooth caries. In addition, one in seven adults aged 35 to 44 years old has periodontal (gum) disease. The severity and prevalence of periodontal disease increase with age. Periodontal disease and tooth decay are the most frequent causes of tooth loss. Having missing teeth can affect overall health and nutrition. Given these serious health consequences, it is important to maintain good oral health.
