Mean Travel Time to Work

Value: 25.2 minutes
Measurement
Period:
2000
Location: State : Hawaii
Categories: Transportation / Commute To Work
What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the average daily travel time to work in minutes for workers 16 years of age and older.

Why this is important: Lengthy commutes cut into workers' free time and can contribute to health problems such as headache, anxiety, and increased blood pressure. More time spent in transit also translates to increased consumption of fossil fuels used for transportation, which is costly for workers as well as for the environment.

Technical note: The distribution is based on Census data from 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Mean travel time to work was calculated by dividing the aggregate travel time to work by the total number of workers.
