What is this Indicator?
This indicator displays the percentage change in land used for farming purposes in the community between 2002 and 2007. |
| Why this is important: Land use is important for community planning. The trend in land used for farming purposes may be a measure of a community's ability to produce food locally. Also, the reduction of land use for farming may be an indicator of development for other uses. |
| Technical Note: The regional value is compared to the national value. The percentage change in land use for farming purposes compares the number of acres of land in farms in 2002 to the number of acres of land in farms in 2007. The data is from a sample of farms surveyed and reported by the United States Department of Agriculture. |
